The Telegraph released the "All Middle Georgia GISA girls basketball team" today.

Coach Todd Whetsel was named coach of the year and Faren Harris and Shanice Stanley were named to the first team while Kayla Steele was named to the 2nd team.

Faren Harris, Tattnall Square, Sr.: Harris led the Trojans with 12.6 points, 4.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game.

Shanice Stanley, Tattnall Square, Sr.: Stanley averaged 12.1 points and 5.7 rebounds to lead the Trojans to the championship game

From a 14-3 win over Rutgers this past weekend:
"The middle of Tech's batting order was 9-for-15 on Sunday, as Daniel Palka, Zane Evans and Jake Davies each had three hits for the Jackets. Freshman outfielder DeAndre Smelter also added three hits, driving in two runs"

Blake Hobby:
Blake continues to do well for North Georgia. Blake is currently 1-1 with a 1.24 ERA with a complete game. He has struck out 28 and walked only 8. In a little over 36 innings pitched, opponents are batting .136 against Blake.

Hank Avery:
Hank was in town the last few days for a wrestling meet. The Air Force Academy Prep School is competing in a wrestling tournament this weekend at Mercer and the administration let Hank come home with the team to serve as manager. He said that he is doing well and will be getting into the Academy in the fall. He asked me to pass on his best to everyone.

At Region Literary, Zack Tedders placed second in Rhetorical Analysis Essay Writing and Grant Nicholson placed second in International Extemporaneous Speaking. Both qualified to participate in the State Literary Meet next week in Valdosta.

We are pleased to announce that Tattnall Square Academy’s Jessica Cheek will be signing to play collegiate soccer with Emmanuel College on Wednesday, March 2nd in the Tattnall Athletic Complex at 10am. Jessica, a four year letterman was a GISA AAA All-region selection in 2010 and has been a solid defender throughout her high school career. Jessica has also been a successful and prominent role on her club teams playing for Macon Soccer Club.

Jessica also helped lead the Tattnall Trojans to reach their academic goals earning the NSCAA All Academic Award in 2008,2009 & 2010. “Jessica deserves this opportunity to play soccer at the next level for her commitment and dedication both academically & athletically” Said Coach Rooke. “We wish her every success as she continues her career”

The Math Team won 5 trophies at the Albany State Meet:
The team of Lindsey Murphy, Taylor Morgan, Taylor Holloway and William Jackson won First place. In individual awards, Murphy was awarded first place, Taylor Morgan second, Taylor Holloway third and Lindsey got an additional trophy for being TSA's top scorer.

At the Charleston Math Meet, the team of William Jackson, Robert Hilliard, Joseph Thublin and David Dozier won second in JV Team Elimination, and the team of Taylor Holloway, Taylor Morgan, Seth Thompson and Lindsey Murphy won Math team relay.

Lady Trojans fall in title game

The Tattnall Lady Trojans fell to Arlington Christian 55-39 Saturday evening in the AAA title game. Faren Harris led Tattnall with 13 points followed by Shanice Stanley with 10.

This season marked the 2nd consecutive year in which the Lady Trojans reached the Final 4.

Lady Trojans advance to championship game

The Lady Trojans beat Stratford 36-29 in the semifinals of the AAA state tournament. They advance to the championship game against Arlington Christian Saturday at 6:40 at the Centennial Center at GCSU.

Faren Harris led Tattnall with 11 points. Shanice Stanley and Kayla Steele also scored late baskets to secure the win.

Lady Trojans return to the Final 4!

The Tattnall Lady Trojans beat Trinity Christian 66-64 Friday evening in the GISA AAA quarterfinals to reach the Final 4 for the second consective year.

Kayla Steele scored a career high 21 points to lead Tattnall.

The Lady Trojans will play Stratford in the Final 4 on Thursday evening at 8:30 at Georgia College and State University. The winner will play the winner of the Arlington/Tiftarea game.

The varsity boys basketball team lost 74-39 to Mt Vernon Thursday evening in the first round of the state tournament. The boys finished the year with a 10-16 record.

Grant Nicholson led the Trojans with 12 points and Andrew Layson added 11.

Hobby starts strong for North Georgia

Blake Hobby ('08) is off to a strong start for North Georgia College and State University this year with an ERA of 0.63 after two starts, ranked 4th in the Peach Belt Conference.

The first weekend he got a no decision while giving up no earned runs in 5.1 innings against Mars Hill. Then last weekend he had a complete game win over Stillman College, 1 run, 5 hits, 9 Ks and no BBs.

The Saints are 6-0 on the season and have risen to # 8 national ranking in Division II and play a three game series in Dahlonega this weekend against Millersville University. Most home games are webcast live if anyone ever wants to check it out online.

The Lady Trojans beat Atlanta Girls School 52-48 in double overtime in the first round of the GISA AAA state tournament Wednesday evening. Kayla Steele scored 18 points to lead Tattnall into the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

The Lady Trojans will play Trinity Christian at 5:30 Friday afternoon at Georgia Southwestern University.

Congratulations to our Math teams who competed in the Georgia Southern Math Competition this past weekend.

The Varsity team of Taylor Holloway, Taylor Morgan, Donnie Piper and William Jackson won first place in GISA out of 19 teams, and William was awarded a second place individual trophy in GISA.

The Junior Varsity team of David Dozier, Marcee Simpson, Anna Dooley and Walker Grimsley won first place in GISA out of 23 teams and David Dozier was awarded the second place individual trophy.

The Middle School team of Rebecca Winget, Loftin Whiddon, Abigail Deese and Stone Waddell won second place in GISA out of 33 teams.

Congratulations to Tattnall's first individual Wrestling State Champion, Arthur Williams!

Read excerpt from the Macon Telegraph article by Brad Harrison-

"But perhaps the most emotional victory Saturday belonged to Tattnall's Arthur Williams in the 215-pound class. Williams, in only his second year of wrestling, battled back against Tiftarea's Austin Felts from an early 4-2 and later a 6-3 deficit to tie the score up at 6 early in the third period. Williams took over from there, dominating the final minute to win 11-7. He was quickly mobbed by teammates, friends and family after the victory. He's Tattnall's first individual state wrestling champion.

"I'm just excited, I feel so good. Words can't explain how I feel right now," an emotional and teary eyed Williams said. "I'm the first one to do this for my school, I love my school; I'm so glad I could do this for my school."

Tattnall head coach Jeff Ratliff credited the work ethic of Williams for his success.

"I think Arthur's heart showed and up and got him though," Ratliff said. "Arthur just kept plugging away, and it goes back to his heart. It just goes back to where he started and how hard he's worked and where he is now."

Cail Brinson won 2nd Place, Forrest Selman placed 3rd, and Austin Anderson took 4th place in respective weight classes.

Both varsity basketball teams finished with a win on the final day of the tournament and each finished the tournament 2-1.

The Lady Trojans beat LaGrange 49-46 to finish 5th in the tournament. Shanice Stanley scored 20 and Faren Harris scored 14. Kayla Steele added 9 and Anna Dooley scored 4 and Blair Smith scored 2.

The boys team beat John Milledge 60-50 in overtime to finish 3rd in the tournament. Andrew Layson led the Trojans with 15 points followed by Josh Sumrall and Grant Nicholson who each added 12. Grayson Brown, Hal Spires, and Zack Houston each scored 6 and Lance Manning added 3.

Both varsity teams will travel to Arlington Christian Tuesday.

The varsity basketball teams swept Windsor Friday evening. Both teams improved to 2-0 on the year.

Scouting report: Tattnall will try to break the string of losses by Middle Georgia teams at Deerfield. The Knights have won 15 straight against Middle Georgia teams. This current Deerfield team trailed for the first time all season last week when Mount de Sales led it going into the half. Deerfield’s diversified offense makes it difficult to stop. Kinslow has passed for 1,258 yards and a GISA-best 20 touchdowns. More importantly, he’s everything a coach would want in a senior leader. Moore and Heard have combined to rush for 1,941 yards and 19 touchdowns. Tattnall counters with three players who have rushed for at least 640 yards. But both head coaches feel like this game could settle into a defensive slugfest. Both defenses are loaded with experienced players. The Knights have allowed more than 14 points only once in 12 games. Tattnall has allowed more than 14 points once in 11 games. Mount de Sales was the team to eclipse 14 points against both teams.

The varsity football team beat Westfield 14-7 Friday evening to earn a spot in the AAA state championship game.

Andrew Parker scored the first points of the game on a 12 yard TD run, but Westfield scored a touchdown just before the half to tie the game at 7. The score remained tied entering the 4th quarter when John Rader scored on a 34 yard touchdown run on the first play of the final period.

Tattnall forced 4 turnovers with Mason Selby recovering a fumble, Cole Waddell and Hal Spires each intercepting a pass, and Jeremy Nable recovering a muffed punt.

Deerfield Windsor beat Mount de Sales 30-27 in the other semifinal game.

Tattnall will travel to Albany Friday for the GISA AAA state championship game. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

Thirty-five TSA Mathletes left Saturday morning for 3 different competitions and came home Saturday afternoon with 8 trophies!

They are as follows:
The 8th grade team of Loftin Whiddon, Rebecca Winget, Stone Waddell and Abby Hinson were driven by Stacy Hinson to Cumming GA for the South Forsyth HS meet and they won 3 trophies: 2nd place Team, 8th individual Loftin Whiddon and 14th individual Rebecca Winget.

The varsity team of Taylor Holloway, Taylor Morgan, Lindsey Murphy and Seth Thompson went to Mercer University and won 3rd place in GISA.

Twenty-seven students went to Rockdale Magnet in Conyers GA. The varsity team of Walker Grimsley, William Jackson, Joseph Thublin, Ryan Knapp, Jeremy Nable and Lance Manning won 1st place in GISA, the JV tam of David Dozier, Marcee Simpson, Sarah Oxford, Lindsey Ennis, Robert Hilliard and Andie Hamlin won 1st place in GISA, the JV team of Lauren Davis, Zack Thompson, Sarah Rousseau, Dakota Long, Rachel Terrill and Marianna Sumrall won 2nd place in GISA. Senior Josh Sumrall kicked an 18 yard field goal with 8 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter to give Tattnall a 17-14 win in the first round of the GISA AAA playoffs.

Sherwood scored first with a 47 yard fumble return for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter. Tattnall answered with a touchdown pass from John Rader to Ryan Mosley to tie the game at 7-7 at halftime.

The Trojans took a 14-7 lead in the 3rd quarter on an Andrew Layson touchdown, but Sherwood tied the game at 14 in the 4th quarter. Tattnall forced a Sherwood punt late in the game that set up the game winning kick by Sumrall.

Tattnall will host Westfield next Friday in the GISA AAA semifinals. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

The varsity football team overcame a 20-0 3rd quarter deficit to beat Mount de Sales 21-20 Friday evening and win GISA Region 2-AAA and earn a #1 seed for the playoffs.

With the Trojans trailing 20-0, Andrew Parker scored from 13 yards out to get Tattnall on the board at 20-7. On the ensuing MDS drive, Hal Spires intercepted a pass and returned it deep into MDS territory; Parker scored 2 plays later. The varsity football team beat Stratford 21-14 Friday evening to improve to 7-1 on the year and 6-0 in Region 2-AAA.

Senior Andrew Parker rushed for 308 yards and a touchdown for Tattnall. John Rader rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Andrew Layson as well.

Tattnall will host undefeated Mount de Sales Friday evening for Senior Night. The game will be for the Region 2-AAA championship and the 1990 state championship team will also be honored at the game. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

Coach Ratliff's stepfather Wayne Wagner passed away Thursday. The arrangements and obituary are below:

Wayne Delano Wagner,67, of Walnut Creek Road, died Thursday, October 28, 2010, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., Monday, November 1, 2010, graveside at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens on Joycliff Road in Jones County, with Mr. Jerry Bridges, Sr. and Rev. John Cotten officiating.

Mr. Wagner was born in Eatonton on April 20, 1943, and had lived in Macon for the past forty years. He was the son of the late Luther Allen Wagner and Lillian England Wagner. He worked as the Plant Manager for Gray Concrete. -Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Fay Wagner; sons, Dale Wagner, Greg Wagner and Scott Wagner; step-children, Tammy Ratliff and Jeff (Suzanne) Ratliff; sister, Pam (Foxy) Childers; brothers, Rusty (Elaine) Wagner and Gary (Sherry) Wagner; his three grandchildren; and by his loving dog, Oscarmire. -In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Heart of Georgia Humane Society, Post Office Box 7554, Macon, Georgia 31209. -The family may be contacted at the residence at 2781 Walnut Creek Road in Macon. -Bridges Funeral Home and Crematory in Gray has charge of arrangements. -Please visit the online memorial at www.bridgesfh.com. Tattnall’s trio of running backs Andrew Parker and Andrew Layson plus quarterback John Rader have teamed for 1,550 yards and 21 touchdowns. Lemon? He has 1,455 yards and 29 touchdowns on 185 carries. This has the makings of an old school slugfest.

The varsity football team improved to 6-1 (5-0 in Region 2-AAA) with a home shutout of John Milledge.

Tattnall led 7-0 at the half after a 2nd quarter touchdown run by Andrew Layson. Cole Waddell began the 2nd half with a kickoff return for a touchdown. John Rader and Hunter Lanier added 2nd half touchdowns as well.

Tattnall continues the region schedule next week traveling to Stratford Academy. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

Scouting report: Tattnall has won six straight in the series and 11 of the past 12. But Tattnall isn’t looking past John Milledge to its final two games the Trojans close with Stratford and Mount de Sales. Tattnall head coach Barney Hester said John Milledge has improved greatly from a winless 2009 campaign. He gave credit to Blizzard and a talented group of running backs. Blizzard operates out of the option and has rushed for more than 700 yards. Tattnall is coming together well as it prepares for its stretch run. Tattnall seems to get better as the season progresses every year. This year is no different with the Trojans winning five straight since a rain-shortened loss to Westfield early in the season.

Update on Coach Reid

Dear Tattnall Family,

As some of you may know, Coach Reid's doctors discovered a tumor around his brain late last week. Coach Reid went in for surgery late Friday, and on Saturday, we learned that the surgery went great, and doctors removed the entire tumor. Results from the pathology report are expected to come in on Thursday.

This morning we received word that he is eating, walking around, and doing wonderful. If all goes well, he could come home today.
